A patent is a government authority or licence conferring a right or title for a set period of time, which is issued to allow one person or company the sole right to exclude others from making, using, or selling an invention.
It is advisable for inventors to acquire a patent for their inventions in much the same way it is advisable for authors to copyright their work.
